FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Find the answer to your question

Apply in just three steps:

  1. Click Join the Queue.
  2. Choose the school you want to apply for (Every school has its own queue. You can place your child in the queue from 1 February the year after they were born).
  3. Fill in the form including your details and those of your child so that we can stay in touch and let you know if a place becomes available.
Most of our schools begin their intake for the following academic year in the autumn term. The length of the process depends on how quickly we hear back from families who are offered places.
Write to the school in question and let them know your queue ID number or personnummer and the information that you would like to change. You can find contact details for our schools here.
There are no fees to attend IES schools. Our schools are funded in the same way as those run by the municipality, through the Swedish tax system and the school voucher (skolpeng).

School choice

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. It will have a profound effect on their future life.

As a parent you have the right to make an active choice about where your child should learn, whether you apply to a municipal or a free school.

Popular schools, with more applications than places, use different methods to decide which children will be offered a place. While municipal schools tend to offer places to those who live closest, many free schools use a first-come, first-served system. In this system those who have the earliest queue date are most likely to be offered a place. IES uses this queue-based system.

Every IES school has its own queue. You can place your child in the queue from 1 February the year after they were born.

  1. Click this link and log in with Bank ID (or mobile Bank ID) using your Swedish social security number (personnummer) in the format yyyymmdd-nnnn. If you do not have a valid Swedish social security number, contact the relevant school directly by email or telephone and they will help you.
  2. Fill in your contact details, including email address and phone number, so that we can reach you easily if a place becomes available for your child.
  3. Look for a verification email in your inbox and click the link to confirm your email address. If you do not find it in your inbox, please do check any spam or junk folders you have.
  4. Once you have verified your email address you can click “gå till kön” to enter your child’s details. Register the details of your child or children, by using their personnummer in the format yyyymmdd-nnnn.
  5. Add information about any siblings (this may be used if you are entitled to sibling priority) and the contact details for any other guardians, including email address and phone number, so that we can reach you easily when a place becomes available for your child. NB: These contact details are important - if a place is offered then all official guardians will need to accept it before the child can join the school.
  6. Choose which IES school you would like your child to be in the queue for, then check that you are happy with the suggestion for when they would start, and in which year-group.
  7. Repeat step six for any other IES schools you would like your child to be in the queue for.

At any time after this you can login again using Bank ID if you need to update your contact details, or would like to change when you would like your child to start at one of our schools.
