Foundational skills

F-3 and Fritidshemmet

During the early years, the focus is on building foundational skills like reading, writing, math, and social development through play-based learning. Students are taught by one main teacher in a consistent, hands-on environment. Parents can expect close communication, a focus on settling in, and formative assessments that provide feedback rather than grades.

Expanding subject knowledge

Years 4-6

In the middle stage, the curriculum broadens to include subjects like Swedish, English, Math, Science, and more. Students develop study skills and begin taking on light homework and projects. They start working with subject-specific teachers and moving between classrooms. Parents can expect strong communication, with students gradually taking more responsibility for organizing materials and managing time. Formal grades are introduced in Year 6.

Deeper subject knowledge

Years 7-9

In the upper stage, students prepare for gymnasiet by taking graded, subject-based courses in areas like Chemistry, Physics, and History. Teaching involves multiple subject teachers, and students move between classrooms, promoting independence and critical thinking. Parents can expect academic tracking and career guidance, as Year 9 grades determine high school program eligibility, with support offered to help students navigate this period.
